My piercings...

March 14, 2013

A few days ago I got a request to talk about my monroe piercing, and I thought I may as well talk about all of my piercings. I'm going to talk about each piercing going by the time that I got them and I will rate each of them with MY opinion of how painful it is, saying that, it may be completely different for you so please take that in mind :)

Cartilage: This was my first major piercing (got my ears done a few years before), and I was 12 or 13 when I went and got it done with my mom. Naturally, I let her go first so I had the opportunity to chicken out but I did not as you can tell by the fact that I am going to be talking about it :) In the process of getting it done it didn't hurt too bad, mostly because the guy put a bit of numbing cream on my hear and was using a clamp to press down hard so that that pressure would take away the pain from the needle. The rest of the day it just stung a little and that was fine, but the next few days were awful. No matter how much I cleaned it, it wouldn't stop hurting (I know cleaning doesn't help with the pain but it should've prevented the infection I got). Both of my mom and I's ears were slightly infected and they hurt so bad that I had to leave early when we were out for dinner because I couldn't stand the pain. We went to the doctor and he told us just to take them out, we didn't really want to do that but eventually our ears got better and they are totally fine now! I don't blame this on the tattoo artist, he is a great guy and he has done my other piercings and they've turned out great, maybe my ears are just a bit sensitive because they didn't react well to my regular ear piercings either.

Monroe: In February of 2012 I got my Monroe pierced for the first time after wanting it since I was 13. My mom had always told me I had to wait until I was 16, but I was 15 so I guess that rule just flew right out the window. I got the piercing done by the same guy as my cartilage piercing so that was good because he always made me feel super comfortable and it seems like he really loves his job and not just the money. Getting the piercing done was an awkward experience having too keep your mouth open like at the dentist also when they put something on the end of the needle to keep it in ya it feels weird. When the needle went it in it was just a bit of a bunch and then it was over, except when it was time to put the actual piercing in it did sting a bit but once he cleaned it up it felt better, and the mouthwash I had to use was very strong and stung a bit. That is one of the worst parts, since I was in school at the time I had to bring a mini bottle of mouth wash with me and swish some around after ever time I ate. The scent is really strong and my friend would give me weird looks when I came back from the bathroom smelling like mouthwash aha. Okay back onto the piercing,  was surprised with how much it didn't hurt. It felt a bit irritated but that is normal, it took over 6 weeks to completely heal and then I was able to change the piercing! Around the end of June I was stupid and took it out just for a day and a night just to see what happened, and well it grew over. It wasn't until October that I got it redone and I went to a different place with my friend and the second time getting it done hurt a lot more. I think it was because I got it done in the exact same spot (didn't want to hole to be visible) so it was pierced through scar tissue. The girl who did it, pierced it sideways which was scaring me that the backing sides (which were sticking out) were going to cut into my gums. I went back to the place I got it done at and she said she could either repierce it or just give it time and it will probably be okay. I gave it time and it is fine now, it could've been because my mouth was a bit swollen for a while causing it to pop out more than it should.

Belly button: I was never really interested in getting my belly button done for some reason, but one day I woke up and said that I was going to get it done. In January 2013 me and my friend both went to get ours done, she got hers done for the second time while I was here for my first. I went first because I wanted to be the badass that can deal with pain, and not meaning to toot my own horn here but I didn't flinch or anything. I think that this was my least painful piercing ever, my mom told me after that it was super painful for her when she got it done so I guess it all depends on the person. It did hurt for a week after getting it done, mostly when I would bend over. It now only hurts when I am laying on my stomach so I do try to not do that. I've found that after I clean my piercing it is very dry and itchy so I put a small amount of Vaseline on a Q-tip and rub it around the area of the piercing, I think this helps a lot.

If you are still here after this long post thank you very much, if there is anything I haven't cleared up for you please leave a comment and I will be sure to reply!
